Key takeaways
- An "all-inclusive" label means nothing until every included item is listed in writing with a quantity or date.
- The surgery itself, the graft count and who performs each step matter more than the extras around it.
- Compare a bundle to a surgery-only quote by pricing the extras yourself, not by comparing headline totals.
- Ask what happens to the package if your plan changes, including graft count, dates and cancellations.
Many Medellín clinics sell hair transplants as packages: the procedure plus some mix of medications, lodging, airport pickup, follow-up visits and extras such as PRP. The decision in front of you is not whether a package is "good." It is whether this specific bundle covers what you actually need, at a fair total, with terms you can hold the clinic to.
The word "all-inclusive" has no standard meaning. Two packages with the same label can differ in graft count, nights of lodging, who performs the extractions and what happens if something needs attention after you fly home.
This guide walks through what a bundle can contain, what to get itemized, and how to line a package up against a surgery-only quote so the comparison is fair.
What "all-inclusive" can mean in practice
Clinics build packages around the parts of the trip that worry first-time patients most. A typical bundle draws from this menu, but no two are the same.
- The procedure: consultation, surgical planning, graft extraction and implantation, local anesthesia, and any sedation offered.
- Pre-op tests: blood work or other checks the clinic requires before surgery.
- Medications: post-op prescriptions, sprays or washing solutions for the first days.
- Day-after check and first wash: many clinics see you the next day. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that if a large amount of hair is transplanted, you may need to return for a few hours the next day.
- Lodging: a set number of nights at a hotel or apartment the clinic chooses.
- Transfers: airport pickup and drop-off, and rides between lodging and the clinic.
- Add-ons: PRP sessions, a neck pillow, a hat, or a translator.
- Remote follow-up: photo check-ins over the months after you return home.
Treat each item as a claim to verify, not a feature. If the paperwork says "medications included," ask which ones and for how many days.
The core: what the surgery line must spell out
The lodging and transfers are the easy part to compare. The surgery line is where packages quietly differ, and it is the part that affects your result.
Graft count and how it is priced
Ask whether the package is priced at a fixed graft number, a range, or "as many as needed." Each one changes your final bill differently.
- Fixed number: ask what happens if the surgeon recommends more or fewer on the day.
- Range: ask which end of the range the quoted price assumes.
- "Unlimited" or "maximum": ask how the surgeon decides the number, and what protects your donor area. ISHRS describes donor hair as a finite, non-renewable supply, so more is not automatically better.
Who does what
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) stresses that only a licensed physician can assess your case and create a legitimate surgical plan, and it warns patients about technicians performing FUE without proper medical training. Get the names and roles in writing: who designs the hairline, who makes the recipient sites, who extracts, who implants.
Technique and shaving
Confirm the technique (FUE, FUT or a combination) and whether the price assumes a full shave, a partial shave or no shave. A no-shave approach is often priced differently, so the package should say which one you are buying.
What to get itemized before you pay
A bundle is easier to sell as one number. You still want each line visible, because it is the only way to see what you are paying for and what is missing.
| Bundle item | What to get in writing | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Surgery | Graft count or range, technique, shave type, surgeon's name | "Up to" counts with no explanation |
| Pre-op tests | Which tests, done where, when | Tests listed as "if needed" with no price |
| Medications | Names, quantity, days covered | "Kit included" with no contents list |
| Day-after visit and wash | Date, time, who performs it | Visit is optional or extra |
| Lodging | Number of nights, type of room, location | Lodging far from the clinic |
| Transfers | Airport both ways, clinic rides, which days | Pickup only, no drop-off |
| PRP or add-ons | Number of sessions, when given | Extras you did not ask for inflating the total |
| Follow-up | How long, by what channel, with whom | No named contact after you leave |
If the clinic will not break the package into lines, ask why. A clinic that is confident in its pricing usually has no reason to hide the parts.
How to compare a bundle with a surgery-only quote
The common mistake is comparing a package total against a surgery-only price and assuming the package costs more. Or the reverse: assuming the bundle is a bargain because it "includes everything."
Do the comparison in four steps:
- Match the surgery. Make sure both quotes cover the same graft count or range, the same technique and the same shave type. If they do not, you are not comparing like with like. Our guide to comparing hair transplant quotes covers this in more depth.
- Price the extras yourself. For the surgery-only quote, look up what the same number of lodging nights, transfers and medications would cost you independently.
- Remove what you would not buy. If the bundle includes PRP or a translator you do not need, it adds no value to you.
- Compare the terms, not just the totals. Deposit rules, cancellation, date changes and follow-up can matter more than a price gap.
You can also ask us for a free quote and graft estimate to have a second reference point while you compare.
Lodging and transfers inside a package
Clinic-arranged lodging is convenient, especially for your first night. It also means someone else chose the location, the room and the noise level.
Ask these questions before you accept the lodging line:
- How far is it from the clinic, and how will you get to the day-after visit?
- Does the room have a shower you can use for gentle washing as instructed?
- Is there an elevator, or will you climb stairs right after surgery?
- Can you swap to your own lodging and get a credit? If so, how much?
- Are the nights fixed to your surgery date, or flexible if your flight changes?
If you would rather choose your own place, ask the clinic to confirm in writing that the day-after visit and transfers still apply.
PRP and other add-ons
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) often appears in packages as a bonus. Treat it as a separate medical decision, not a free extra.
Ask the surgeon whether they recommend it for your case and why, how many sessions are included, and whether you would need more sessions later at home. If the answer is vague, it may be there mainly to make the bundle look larger.
Follow-up after you fly home
This is the line most packages describe least clearly, and it matters most if something goes wrong once you are back home.
The CDC's medical tourism guidance advises arranging follow-up care at home before you travel, and warns that follow-up care for complications can be expensive and might not be covered by your insurance. It also suggests getting copies of your medical records from the facility before you leave.
Get these in writing:
- Who you contact with a question, by name and channel
- How long the clinic will review progress photos
- What the clinic covers if you need care at home
- Whether you will receive an operative report with graft count and technique
Terms that change what the bundle is worth
A package can look complete and still leave you exposed on the terms. Read these before you send any money.
- Deposit: how much, refundable or not, and under what conditions. Our guide to deposits and payment lists what to confirm.
- Date changes: whether you can move the surgery date, and at what cost.
- Graft count changes: what you pay if the surgeon recommends a different number after examining you in person.
- Currency: whether the price is fixed in dollars or pesos, and who carries exchange-rate changes.
- What happens if surgery does not go ahead: for example, if pre-op tests rule you out.
A good package is one where you could explain every line to someone else and know exactly what you will and will not receive. If you cannot do that from the paperwork, ask until you can.

Common questions
Is an all-inclusive package cheaper than booking each part myself?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Price the lodging, transfers and medications yourself, match the surgery details, and then compare totals and terms.
Can I remove items from a package I don't need?
Ask. Some clinics will credit you for lodging or transfers you arrange yourself, while others price the bundle as fixed. Get the answer in writing either way.
Does the package price change if I need more grafts?
It depends on how the package is written. If it is priced at a fixed count, ask in advance what each additional graft or graft block costs and who decides the final number.
Is PRP necessary with a hair transplant?
That is a medical question for a surgeon who has examined you. Ask whether they recommend it for your case specifically, rather than accepting it because it is bundled.
What should be in writing before I pay a deposit?
The itemized package, the surgeon's name and role, the graft count or range, the technique, the deposit and cancellation terms, and the follow-up plan after you go home.
